Emory College Research Grants in Humanistic Inquiry
Office of the Dean of Emory College and
The Bill and Carol Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry
The 2005 sale of intellectual property rights owned by Emory has made possible increased funding for research in the natural and social sciences. To ensure equality of funding across the units, each academic year, the Dean of Emory College will designate a pool of funds for research grants in humanistic inquiry to be used by Emory College faculty. These grants are intended to support individual or collaborative research in humanistic inquiry, including but not limited to travel, translation, temporary research assistants, computer equipment or software acquisition. Please note that requests regarding computer equipment, peripherals or software will only be funded for specialized technology related to specific research projects and must include specs from your local support. In addition, the humanistic inquiry research grants do not fund conference travel, campus events, honoraria, speaker expenses or publication subventions.
In addition, the humanistic inquiry research grants are for one-time support of a particular proposal, and are designed as supplements to other funding available from departmental, external or other University sources. Faculty who have recently been awarded the grant are seldom funded again, as the humanistic inquiry research grants are considered a one-time resource. Because the funding pool is limited, the competing proposals will be critically evaluated by a grant committee. The average grant is $2,000.
Application and Selection Process (Click here for application)
Eligibility is limited to regular full-time Emory College faculty who are doing research in humanistic inquiry. All proposals must include an application (.pdf - type online and print) signed by the department chair, and a brief description of your research project that should equal your budget. All proposals should be submitted to Jennifer Stocking, Emory College, 405 Candler Library or faxed to 404.712.9451. Late proposals will not receive consideration.
The grant committee is comprised of representatives of the Emory College Administration and The Bill and Carol Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry who meet twice a year for proposal consideration.
